What is bulletproof?

Bullet-resistant materials are tested using a gun to fire a projectile from a set distance into the material, in a specific pattern. Levels of protection are based on the ability of the target to stop a specific type of projectile traveling at a specific speed.

A frame must be tested in its entirety and be the subject of a single test report. The juxtaposition of two separated certificates is worthless. A bulletproof product therefore stops bullets from being classified according to the appropriate standard.

EU

WHAT ARE THE EU STANDARDS ?

EN 1522 – 1523 | the only bulletproof classification for EU

The scope of application of EN 1522 – 1523 is strictly as follows: this European standard defines a test procedure for classifying the bullet-resistance of windows, doors, closures and blinds, their fillings and the connections between fillings and frames.

It does not apply to the testing of glass fillings that fall within the scope of EN 1063 and does not give any information on the behaviour of the frame subjected to other types of constraint. Similarly, it does not give any information on the bullet resistance of the link between the frame and the wall or other surrounding structures.

In order to obtain a bullet-resistance classification in accordance with EN 1522 – 1523, a frame must be tested as a whole and only one single test report must be submitted; juxtaposition of two separated certificates of steel quality and glass filling would be of no value and cannot be accepted. Such a practice would engage the responsibility of the seller.

The EN 1522 – 1523 standard defines 7 resistance classes for pistols and rifles (FB1 to FB7) and one class for shotguns (FSG).

FB1 BR1 | Rifle. 22 Long Rifle (L. R.)
FB2 BR2 | Para 9mm Gun/Revolver
FB3 BR3 | Gun / revolver. 357 Magnum
FB4 BR4 | Gun / revolver. 44 Magnum
FB5 BR5 | assault rifle 5.56×45 NATO
FB6 BR6 | assault rifle 5.56×45 Armour Piercing // Geweer 7.62×51 Soft Core
FB7 BR7 | assault rifle 7.62×51 Armour Piercing

SG1 | Hunting rifle / Riot Gun Cal. 12/70 Brenneke – number of hits : 1
SG2 | Hunting rifle / Riot Gun Cal. 12/70 Brenneke – number of hits : 3
